Musician Ear Plugs and Monitors
Musicians have an unconventional request when it comes to hearing protection. They need to be able to hear their own music and at the same time protect their hearing from loud music while performing. Store-bought earplugs are an economic alternative however; do not work well for musicians since they attenuate too much. What are the alternatives?
Musician's Ear Plugs
Musician's ear plugs are available in both a custom and a ready-fit model. The more economical ready-fit model attenuates sound levels by about 20dB. This is generally acceptable in protecting the ear while at the same time not distorting the speech or music. Custom musician earplugs are based on an impression that is taken of the ear. A filtered ear plug is then created in a lab which is unique to your ear only, fitting you like a glove, and you have the flexibility of insertion various levels of attenuation contingent on the environment. The custom filters come in attenuation levels of 10dB, 15dB, and 25dB.
Who else can use Musician's ear plugs?

In-Ear Musician Monitors
The gold standard for audiophiles and musicians are in-ear musician monitors (IEMs). They allow performers to protest the ear from harmfully loud amplification systems while simultaneously hearing their own/bands music. IEMs are recommended to be custom molded to the performers ear. Custom fit
monitors ensure sound isolation, comfort, and optimal sound quality.
